The Story of Steinberg Company

Founding and Early Years

Steinberg Company was founded in 1983 by Dr. Karl Steinberg in Hamburg, Germany. An accomplished audio engineer and software developer, Dr. Steinberg saw an opportunity in the burgeoning field of digital audio technology. Recognizing the potential for computers to revolutionize music production, he envisioned creating tools that could streamline the recording, editing, and mixing processes for musicians and producers.

Innovation and Growth

The company's first major product, the MIDI sequencing software Pro-16, was released in 1984 for the Commodore 64. This product was groundbreaking, offering musicians unprecedented control over MIDI instruments and establishing Steinberg as a key player in the digital audio industry. The success of Pro-16 led to the development of the more advanced Pro-24 for the Atari ST, which further solidified the company's reputation.

In 1989, Steinberg released Cubase, a digital audio workstation (DAW) that became the company's flagship product. Cubase was revolutionary, introducing the concept of virtual recording and MIDI sequencing within a single platform. Its innovative features and user-friendly interface made it a favorite among musicians, producers, and sound engineers, leading to widespread adoption across the industry.

Expanding the Product Line

Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Steinberg continued to innovate, expanding its product line to include a range of software and hardware solutions for audio professionals. Notable releases included WaveLab, a powerful audio editing and mastering software, and Nuendo, a high-end DAW designed for film, television, and post-production work.

Steinberg also developed several influential audio technologies, such as Virtual Studio Technology (VST), which allowed for the integration of virtual instruments and effects into DAWs. VST became a standard in the industry, further cementing Steinberg's position as a leader in digital audio technology.

Acquisitions and Partnerships

In 2004, Steinberg was acquired by Yamaha Corporation, a global leader in musical instruments and audio equipment. This partnership provided Steinberg with additional resources and expertise, enabling the company to enhance its product offerings and expand its reach in the market.

The collaboration with Yamaha led to the development of new hardware products, such as the UR series of audio interfaces, which integrated seamlessly with Steinberg's software. This synergy between hardware and software helped Steinberg to continue delivering innovative and reliable solutions to its customers.

Continuing Innovation

In recent years, Steinberg has maintained its focus on innovation, regularly releasing updates and new versions of its software to meet the evolving needs of audio professionals. The company has embraced new technologies, such as cloud-based collaboration tools and artificial intelligence, to enhance the functionality and accessibility of its products.

Steinberg's commitment to quality and innovation has earned it numerous awards and accolades within the industry. The company's products are used by a wide range of professionals, from independent musicians and home studio enthusiasts to top-tier producers and engineers working on major film and television projects.

Legacy and Impact

Today, Steinberg remains a leading force in the digital audio industry, with a rich history of pioneering products and technologies. The company's legacy is reflected in the countless hit records, film scores, and audio productions created using its tools. As Steinberg continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in digital audio, it remains dedicated to empowering musicians and audio professionals around the world to achieve their creative visions.

Feedback Loop Sounds For Kontakt

10 Soundware releases Mixer Feedback model B K

Mixer Feedback model B K from 10 Soundware is a sound set for Native Instruments Kontakt 5. Designed by Taichi Furudate, these patches are based on audio captured from a no-input mixer, an instrument contrived by connecting the output of an audio mixer with its input to incite feedback. The second in a series of four titles, each centered on a different mixer, this release features a contemporary, mass market model by a German manufacturer.

The timbres generated by the mixer used in Mixer Feedback model B K can be described as "like a cheap digital synthesizer", according to Taichi Furudate. Due to its inexpensiveness and replaceability, this model is the most violently handled mixer in his collection (it has been thrown during performances), and has damage to its electronics, resulting in a highly "customized" device. Driven by his preference for physical interaction and "rough and chaotic" behaviors of no-input mixers, this model is often configured with a piezoelectric microphone and a small speaker to form the feedback loop. In this configuration, the angle, position, and pressure of the two components serve as parameters in which to acoustically shape the feedback signal, by introducing precariousness and imperfection.

The 53.7 MB download includes 50 .nki files and 100 WAV files (24-bit/44.1 kHz).

Sylenth House Phrases And Progressions

Producer Loops releases Sounds+MIDI: House for Sylenth

Sounds+MIDI: House for Sylenth is the first in a brand new series from Producer Loops designed for users of the Sylenth VSTi. They tell us that, packed full of phrases and progressions, it takes a new approach to the traditional MIDI pack concept by including a patch library designed to integrate seamlessly with the MIDI loops. Here's the details in their own words:

Inside you'll find 128 patches for Sylenth 2.21 or higher, including 45 powerful bass sounds, 45 soaring leads, 16 pluck instruments and 10 rich chord & pad sounds. In addition to this, 48 MIDI loops are included. Each file is labelled to match the correct patch within the patch bank. You can also try them out with any of the 128 patches included to achieve your own sound.

About "Sounds+MIDI":

MIDI is a powerful and versatile format, overcoming many of the limitations of audio in relation to pitch shifting and time stretching. However, MIDI contains only note data and so it has been impossible for the user to recreate the exact sounds found in the original phrase. Until now.

Introducing the new Sounds+MIDI range from Producer Loops. Each product in this range will include not only a selection of 100% original and royalty-free MIDI loops, but also the patches used to create them. This includes LFO and modulation routing, as well as pitch bend range; traditionally MIDI defaults to 2 semitones up or down. This range will be expanded upon with future releases, so start your collection today with 'Sounds+MIDI: House for Sylenth'.

Pricing and Availability:
Sounds+MIDI: House for Sylenth is available for instant download for £22.95 / 26,44 EUR / $29.12 USD.
